1. No purchase is necessary. Contest is sponsored by North Jersey Media Group Inc., publisher of The Record. Contest runs September 3 through February 7, 2010. Contest is open to all U.S. residents, ages 13 and older at the time of entry, except officers, directors, and employees of North Jersey Media Group Inc., UPICKEM and each of their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and agencies, and immediate family members and/or persons living in the same household as any of the foregoing persons. Contest subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void in New York, Florida and elsewhere where taxed, restricted, or prohibited by law.
2. To play, visit http://www.northjersey.com/pigskin. Each week you pick: (a) the winner for each NFL game scheduled for the week; and (b) the score of each game designated as a “tie breaker game”. Selections must be made at least 15 minutes before game is scheduled to start. The point value for each game is clearly marked on the entry page. The system throws out your 4 worst weeks over the 21 week period, so only your best 17 weeks count toward your overall score. You can participate even if the season has already started. Your picks going forward will be counted toward your score. If you start after week 5, you’ll be behind the others in terms of the overall season, but you could still win a prize for an individual week.
3. If a player doesn’t pick the winner of each game, the computer will select the most picked teams for you. However, a player cannot win a weekly prize if the computer makes any selection(s) for the player, and a player cannot be eligible to win an overall prize for the season if the computer selects 11 or more game winners for that player.
4. If a game is canceled, forfeited, or indefinitely suspended for any reason, or if game results in a tie, that game shall not count for any player and scores will be computed as if the game did not exist.
5. All entries must be submitted online at http://www.northjersey.com/pigskin at least 15 minutes before each game. Only fully completed official entry forms submitted through the entry website will be eligible. No photocopies or facsimiles permitted.
6. North Jersey Media Group Inc., UPICKEM and each of their respective parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and the respective officers, directors, employees, owners, and agents of each of the foregoing entities are not responsible for Internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, phone line failures, electrical outages, natural disasters or acts of man or God, or any other circumstances affecting receipt of entries or entrants’ ability to participate in the Pigskin Payoff Contest. 7. For an individual week, ties will be broken as follows: The computer will take all the qualified players who are tied for the most points for the week, and, for each tied player, will:
(a) Subtract what the player chose as the score for the winning team from the actual winning team’s score and square this value;
(b) Subtract what the player chose as the score for the losing team from the actual losing team’s score and square this value; then
(c) Add (a) and (b) directly above together to get the player’s “score approximation” for the relevant week.
The player with the lowest “score approximation” wins, unless there is a tie for the lowest “score approximation” for the week, in which case the computer will randomly choose a winner from the players who are tied with the lowest “score approximation.”
8. For the overall season, ties are broken as follows: The computer will take all the qualified players who are tied for the most points for the season and look at the final week’s tie-breaker game, and, for each tied player, will:
(a) Subtract what the player chose as the score for the winning team from the actual winning team’s score and square this value;
(b) Subtract what the player chose as the score for the losing team from the actual losing team’s score and square this value; then
(c) Add (a) and (b) directly above together to get the player’s “score approximation” for the season.
The player with the lowest “score approximation” for the season will win, unless there is a tie for the lowest “score approximation” for the season, in which case the computer will look back at the previous week’s tie-breaker “score approximation.” If there is still a tie, the computer will continue to go back to the previous week’s tie-breaker “score approximation” until the tie is broken. If there is still a tie after going back through all weeks, the computer will randomly choose a winner from all players who are tied after all the weekly “score approximations” have been calculated.
9. Players may also participate in the Pro Football Regular Season Survivor game, which is included in the Pigskin Payoff Contest. Beginning with the first week of the season, players pick the team they are sure will win that week. If they pick correctly, they’ll advance to the next week. However, in future weeks they cannot pick the same team again. If they’re wrong, they will still be in the Pigskin Payoff Contest, but they are out of the Pro Football Regular Season Survivor game within the Contest. Ties are broken by selecting the remaining player with the highest overall Contest point scores for the season. If there is still a tie when the overall Contest point scores are factored in, the computer will pick randomly from those players still in the running. Players still in the running can see how many other players are still eligible with them, both locally and nationally. Those players out of the running will not be able to make any more picks. Winners are notified by email and phone and are posted on http://www.northjersey.com/pigskin.
10. All decisions of the judges on all matters relating to the Contest and the Pro Football Regular Season Survivor game are final and binding.
11. Each Monday during the NFL season, winners will be posted on http://www.northjersey.com/pigskin approximately 1-2 hours of the end of the Monday Night Football game. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. A total of twenty-three (23) local winners, as detailed below, will be determined through the duration of the Contest period. Local winners are defined as only players who entered through the unique contest website for The Record which is http://www.northjersey.com/pigskin. Each player entering through this unique site is tagged and only players with this distinct tag will be scored when determining the local winners. Winners will be posted on http://www.northjersey.com/pigskin. Prizes are as follows:
- For twenty-one (21) weeks, one (1) weekly winner will be determined per week to receive $250.00.
- One (1) overall local prize winner receives $1,000.00.
- One (1) local Pro Football Regular Season Survivor game winner receives $500.00.
National prizes will also be awarded by UPICKEM. All local players are eligible to win these prizes. When tallying national winners, all players entering from all regions and all newspapers will be scored together. Prizes are as follows:
- For twenty-one (21) weeks, one national prize winner will be determined per week to receive an NFL Fathead Watch in the team of their choice. (Value: $69.95-$99.95)
- One (1) overall national prize winner receives a $1,500.00 Amazon.com gift certificate.
- One (1) overall Pro Football Regular Season Survivor game winner receives a $500.00 Amazon.com gift certificate.
12. UPICKEM will notify national winners by email and phone. Each national winner, or the parent and/or legal guardian of the winner if the winner is under 18 years of age, will be required to complete a W-9 form. If a national winner is unreachable after seven (7) days, or if that winner is unavailable for prize fulfillment, an alternate winner will be determined by selecting the player with the next highest score. All results posted are unofficial until winners respond to email or phone notification.
13. North Jersey Media Group Inc. will notify local winners by phone on the Tuesday following the posting of the winners on http://www.northjersey.com/pigskin. Winners have seven (7) days to confirm intention to accept the prize. If the prize is not claimed by that time, the prize will be forfeited and the player with the next highest score will be deemed an alternate winner. Each winner, or the parent and/or legal guardian of the winner if winner is under 18 years of age, must supply valid I.D., sign an Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability & Publicity Release (“Affidavit”), and complete a W-9 form prior to receiving a prize. If a winner fails to provide I.D., fails to sign affidavit and W-9, and/or if prize notification is not responded to, the prize will be forfeited and the player with the next highest score will be deemed an alternate winner.
14. All prizes are awarded. Prizes are non-transferable. Substitution is not allowed, except at the sole discretion of North Jersey Media Group Inc. and UPICKEM. Each winner is responsible for all federal, state and local taxes
15. North Jersey Media Group Inc. and UPICKEM reserve the right to terminate, modify, or otherwise change this Contest, at its sole discretion, should it determine that its fairness has been compromised.
16. Entry constitutes agreement to hold North Jersey Media Group Inc., UPICKEM and each of their respective parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and the officers, directors, employees, owners, shareholders, suppliers, distributors, and agents of each of the foregoing entities, harmless from and against any and all damages, liability, claims, and/or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, or use of a prize or in any other way arising out of, or claimed to be arising out of, this Contest.
17. This Contest is not intended for gambling. If it is determined that a player is using this Contest for gambling purposes, that player will be disqualified and reported to authorities.
18. By claiming a prize, winners grant North Jersey Media Group Inc. and UPICKEM the right to use and publish their proper name, hometown, and prize allocation online, in print, and in any other media, in connection with the Contest. For a list of prize winners, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Pigskin Winners, 1 Garret Mountain Plaza, P.O. Box 471, Woodland Park, NJ. Requests must be received by June 30, 2010.

The Contest and all of the related pages, contents, marks, and code are the copyright, , trademarks, and/or other intellectual property right of UPICKEM, Inc., and/or North Jersey Media Group Inc. Copying or unauthorized use of any copyrighted materials, trademarks or any other intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.
